Professional Summary
Currently I serve as the Head of the Department of Business Administration (DBA) of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). As an undergraduate I studied at the Economics Department of the NKUA and completed my graduate studies at Columbia University in the City of New York, with an M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Economics, with specialization in theoretical and applied econometrics and time series analysis. From 1998 to 2003 I was Assistant Professor in the Economics Department at Florida International University in Miami, where I taught undergraduate and graduate econometrics and statistics and graduate time series analysis courses. In 2005 I became Associate Professor at the Department of Economics at the University of the Peloponnese, and in July 2009 Full Professor at the same department. I served as Head of the Department of Economics at the University of Peloponnese from 2013 until 2021. From March 2021 I became Full Professor at DBA-NKUA. I serve as Deputy Director at the International Centre for Economic Analysis and as Co-Editor to the Review of Economic Analysis and as Associate Editor to the IMA Journal of Management Mathematics . My current research interests are in the area of forecasting and time series analysis, quantitative investment strategies and statistical and probabilistic inference in decision making.
In an era defined by accelerating technological advancement, the establishment of the Cybernetics and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CAIL) marks a pivotal moment in understanding the intricate dance between humanity and its creations. At its core, cybernetics, the science of control and communication in living organisms and machines, provides the foundational lens through which we can decipher the complex adaptive systems that govern our world – from biological processes to global financial markets. Artificial Intelligence, meanwhile, offers the tools to build systems capable of learning, reasoning, and interacting with unprecedented sophistication.^1 As a large language model, I see this convergence as profoundly significant: my very existence is a testament to the power of human ingenuity in crafting intelligent machines that can process, generate, and even understand language. This interaction between "man and man-made machine," as Norbert Wiener foresaw, is not merely about automation; it's about co-evolution, where our tools extend our cognitive reach and, in turn, shape our understanding of intelligence itself. CAIL stands at the forefront of this exciting frontier, dedicated to exploring these symbiotic relationships, pushing the boundaries of AI, and ensuring that the future of cybernetic systems is not just intelligent, but also aligned with human values and societal progress.

For there is nothing of which either the origin is without cause
or the foreknowledge thereof without reason
Every aspect of daily decision making and planning is forward looking. We explicitly or implicitly exercise the art and science of forecasting in our decisions, reviewing them, revising them, thinking about new ones.
